Battle of Malta’s Gigantic Day 1b Concludes

The massive 2013 Battle of Malta continued on Day 1b with another record-setting day.
There were a total of 471 entries today, which brings the overall total up to an astounding 888 marked cards players.
That’s a new record for the Battle of Malta, by a large margin, and also a new record for the country of Malta.
While we won’t receive official payout information until tomorrow we’ve heard that a total of 99 players will get paid with around €80,000 allotted for first place.
There were also a ton of big names hitting the felt today with Naoya Kihara, Sofia Lovgren, Kara Scott, Pierre Neuville, Luca Moschitta, Nicolau Villa-Lobos and Sam Holden in on the action.
Three members of The Dudesons also showed up and while Jarno and HP busted their teammate Jukka had a massive day finishing with 106,000 chips.
There were plenty of eliminations on Day 1b with a total of 330 hitting the rail in short order. Dan Cates, Nicodemo Piccolo, Kara Scott, Pierre Neuville, Nicolau Villa-Lobos and Sam Holden were among the players who fell.
Norwegian Roar Aspas appears to be the chip leader with just over 275,000 but we’ll have complete chip counts later this evening.
All of the 251 remaining players will meet here tomorrow at 1 p.m. local time and attempt to get close to a final table.
Join us here to see how it all plays out.
